18th October 2019  Simon Imrei
Singer/songwriter Simon Imrei is proud to release a brand-new collection of songs into the world with his new EP, Older. With four new acoustic offerings among the track list, capped by the full-band single Stand Still, the new EP continues down the path established by Simon’s 2018 two-part album, The Sum of Scenes. Recorded largely at The Aviary, the new music has all of the vintage tape tones and nuance that the studio is renowned for, paired with the honesty and subtly Simon has returned to in his recent releases.
The songs are raw and stripped-back, but have a depth and cinematic quality wrapped around the storytelling. From the melancholy Americana of Stand Still, to the harmony-laden playfulness of Next To Me and the haunting echo of Same Old Story, the depth of the music is not only in the subject matter, but also in the eyes through which the stories are told. It’s an EP born out of the perspective that only comes from age and experience.

Great harmonies from the friends.

“Honest stories & sentiment, wrapped in folk/Americana, anchored by percussive guitar playing and laced with blues sensibility…”

20th September 2019  DYLANesque – the Bob Dylan Story
FOLK SINGER, REBEL, BEAT POET, ROCK STAR
Bob Dylan changed music forever when he burst onto the scene in the 60s in New York’s Greenwich Village.
And Jeff Jenkins pays tribute to Dylan’s extraordinary life, the times and his music in his one man show DYLANesque – the Bob Dylan Story.
Over 1.5 hours Jeff cleverly weaves stories of key moments from Bob’s life with spellbinding performances of some of Dylan’s finest songs.
It’s a powerful homage to one of the 20th century’s greatest songwriters and a rare opportunity to hear Dylan songs sung the way he used to sing them.
If you want ‘authentic Bob’ – this is the show for you.

AGM over – New committee elected. On with the music.

16th August 2019  Jose and the Amigos
Just a bunch of crazy hombres playing bluegrass!  Led by a notorious bandito, Jose & The Amigos brings bluegrass (and its relatives) to you with a serving of spicy enchiladas. The amigos are recruited from jam sessions, deserted tropical islands, and lonesome haciendas, wherever Jose can rustle them up.  The band often has additions from Jammalong sessions (Melbourne and Canberra) but its core membership typically includes: Marty (aka Maurice), Tom, Chops, Mick and Jose.  Andale andale arriba!

21st June 2019  Greg Champion

This is the type of humor you will get. Back by popular demand.

Greg came to notice in the Eighties on ABC radio with the song I Made a 100 In The Backyard At Mum’s.  Now he’s released over 30 CDs, and won a few gongs in the VMI category: ‘Vaguely Minor Identity’.  Champs has been a member of institutional ABC radio programme The Coodabeen Champions for 36 years. Greg grew up in the Hectorville Home For The Visually Unpleasant, and nowadays does guest speaking, where he’s classified as a De-Motivational Speaker. A four time runner-up in the Australian Underachiever Awards, Champs has no criminal record.

17th May 2019   Rich Davies and the Low Road
With a poet’s heart & rocker’s soul, Rich Davies & The Low Road deliver a ‘foot-stomping contemporary folk attack’ (Mick Thomas). The Golden Guitar 2018 nominee & his rousing band have been hailed as ‘The Pogues meets Springsteen’ as they peel back the skin of rock’n’roll to expose bones of folk and roots. The Low Road are renowned for their raucous live show and heart-stopping harmonies, traversing tender ballads to impassioned folk stompers. Placing song craft front and centre, with Davies’ heart-wrung voice leading the charge.

15th February 2019 – Alanna & Alicia Egan

Identical twin sisters Alanna & Alicia have toured the Australian festival circuit, charming audiences with their original folky/ jazz/ roots songs, sweet harmonies, and onstage warmth and fun. Both are gifted songwriters who have won awards at national level, and their lyrics, equal parts heart and humour, sparkle with an original, intimate voice. They will sing songs from their beautiful new album ‘Songs I’m Singing with Me,’ a tribute to Australian troubadour, John Beavis and named in the National Folk Festival’s Best Albums of 2017.
They will also sing songs from their previous original albums, ‘Twinlines’ 2013, ‘Two in a Book’‚ 2010 and ‘Funny She’s So Much Like Me’‚ 2006. Their fine band features talented musicians, Robbie Melville, guitar, Silas Palmer, piano, violin and Sarah Busutill, violin and snare drum.

‘deliciously idiosyncratic and saucy songs…wry, frank observations of life and love…quality quirky lyrics delivered with verve and the kind of close harmonies you’d expect from sisters.’
Tony Hillier, Rhythms Magazine

‘In concert they are entertaining and lively characters with an unpredictable, unscripted natural humour inspired by close observations and wry story telling. They are brimming with talent, a free spirit and endearing charm’.
Jamie McKew, Festival Director, Port Fairy Folk Festival (1977 – 2015)

16th November 2018   The Long and Short of It
David Baird
A shy man with a deep love for singing and playing his guitar, David Baird is one of the musical duo ‘The Long and Short of It’.
Playing for 30 years and singing at home, David put his shyness aside when he visited Williamstown vocal coach Steven Zammit who saw his potential.
Fellow singer Patsy Toop thinks that David is an inspiration.
“He’s been playing guitar for a long time and singing by himself. The beautiful thing now is that everyone who has heard him is spellbound”

Patsy Toop
From a very early age Patsy was musically influenced by artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Cat Stevens, Pink Floyd to name a few.
Patsy has always harbored a burning desire to be able to sing and entertain people.
By chance, Patsy heard David Baird playing his guitar and singing at a charity function.
For David and Patsy that meeting has now developed into an extraordinary and powerful relationship when they perform together.

A great night with beautiful harmonies. No wonder they have singles in the top 40 country charts.

19th October 2018  Moonie Valley Drifters
I clearly remember I met the Moonee Valley Drifters at the Terminus hotel in 1987. I sat at the old piano in the empty bar and we played a bunch of songs that I knew from records but had never actually played. We sat close together microphones. Just behind me, Tom was singing and thumpin his old Martin guitar, Curly played brushes on his thighs while Rob played a Telecaster, and ex-US Navyman Peter Linden played Pedal Steel like nothing I had heard before. On the left Paul Pyle (complete with his own supply of beer in a personal esky!) played the wildest 2 beat bass. That was a moment. Along with our mutual love of Western Swing Tom introduced me and many others to the joys and sorrows of the Louvin Brothers, Lefty Frizzell, George Jones and Brenda Lee and his own originals.

Many musicians have passed through the ranks but the Drifters continue the tradition to write, record and play their music.  It’s clearly a life sentence. Tom Forsell, an expatriate Michigander) for 42 years has brought the real roots of country to Australia with him. Sure we have our bush country, Tamworth country, Aboriginal country, but Tom brought the love of the song, respect for the great feeling that country is capable of and the release created by dancing – all central to the music.  This is people’s music that survives no matter what Nashville, the music industry and Tamworth try to do to it.

17th August 2018  Paul Wookey

Paul Wookey has been a distinctive singer and songwriter since he first discovered the music of Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan and was  inspired to pick up a guitar and emulate his heroes.
Over many years he has honed these skills and toured extensively throughout Australia with occasional  international forays.
A regular performer at numerous folk and country music festivals, he won the prestigious Best New Artist Award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 1981 in recognition of the quality of his first album, “Mountain Breakfast” distributed through EMI.
Paul’s music is not easy to classify, sitting somewhere between folk, blues and country music with a more or less even distribution of Irish, American and Australian influences.

What counts, of course, is the quality of his songs and this was recognized after the release in 2000 of Paul’s “One Way Ticket” album.  A lot of interest was stimulated as a result of the extensive airplay of the album on Radio National. Glenn A. Baker was in fact moved to say that the album contained a collection of “powerful and important Australian songs” in his review for the Financial Review. Paul completed his latest album “I Wish It Would Rain” in 2004.

20th July 2018  Liminality
Their music dwells on the Celtic threshold and exists in the space of the in-between. Engage in quiet reflection, explore the styles and melodic interplay between these three gifted musicians. ”

Liminality’s new album RiverMead is an exploration of musical styles and melodic interplay combining Celtic harp, violin, piano, mandolin and vocals.
Their music is deeply grounded in the Celtic and European traditions, dwelling on the Celtic threshold and existing in that liminal space between the known and the unknown. It is here that the music melds contemporary spirituality with the ancient traditions.
Liminality is Cath Connelly on Celtic harp, Greg Hunt on Violin and mandolin and Jules Vines on keyboards and vocals.
RiverMead is their fourth album and their first as a trio – the addition of Jules to the group brings a new sonic depth and flavour to the music.

Support Act
Nathan Varga

Nathan Varga personifies musicianship at its finest with his rare-air ability to play Cajon and Guitar simultaneously. His musical prowess is phenomenal as he embodies a natural ease to his playing, with his humble character and expressive artistry that touches your soul and reminds you of who you are, and the beauty of life itself…

Jaws drop to the effect of Nathan playing solo, with his ability to change any emotion with a few plucks of the strings, sounding like three or more musicians playing. With his Acoustic Guitar, Multiple Capos (which he often glides on and off during performances), and Blue Burl Cajon, this artistic blend creates a remarkably full-bodied sound and a standout style. It’s a performance from Nathan that evidently creates a stillness in the room.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, the Fingerstyle guitarist and Singer/Songwriter has an enthusiasm and passion that shines through his beautifully crafted melodies, peachy bass lines, and heavenly percussive elements.

His song ‘Al Saunders’ Garage,’ covered by Enda Kenny, has become a folk circuit classic.
Robbie has been described as “the troubadour with a groove” and “the Bob Dylan of the Melbourne hills” by the Melbourne Times. His material could best be described as rootsy, reflecting his folk, blues, jazz, reggae and rock influences.
The musical banquet is served up in collaboration with violin wizard Matt Arnold and talented singer-percussionist David Johnston.
